Solar done right.
Solar and a home battery on the house you already own. Buy the system and keep the incentives, or, in Illinois, provide the roof and pay only for the power it produces. We handle the roof, design, permits, and installation.
Power plans are currently offered in Illinois, on a qualifying agreement only. Credit and roof approval required. Rate, term, escalator, transfer, and buyout depend on the agreement you sign and on Illinois law. With a power plan, incentives go to the system owner. This is not free solar. Missouri homeowners can buy or finance their system.
Residential Solar Experts
Solar Designed Around Your Home
Cox Solar Solutions helps homeowners across Illinois take control of rising electric bills with solar systems engineered for their roof, their usage, and the utility rules where they live. You get one team from the first consultation through utility approval, with no hand-offs.
Custom design from your actual 12-month usage
Illinois Shines and utility rebate paperwork handled
ComEd, Ameren Illinois, MidAmerican & municipal interconnection
Snow loads and freeze-thaw cycles shape how we rack and flash every array. In Illinois, supply-only net metering for new ComEd and Ameren Illinois customers makes system size matter more than ever, and Illinois Shines REC payments reward systems that are designed and documented correctly.
From Chicago bungalows and suburban two-stories to farmhouses outside Peoria and Springfield, we size every system to the power you actually use, so it's built to perform in January and July anywhere in Illinois.
Recent jobs by Cox Roofing & Restoration: roof replacements, flat roofs, gutters, and copper work. A solid roof is the first step to a solar install that lasts.

From Chicago and the suburbs to Rockford, the Quad Cities, Peoria, Springfield, Champaign, the Metro East, and Southern Illinois. Choose your community for local utility, permit, and incentive details.
For many homeowners, yes. Illinois Shines pays for the renewable energy credits your system produces, ComEd and Ameren offer a one-time $300-per-kW rebate for smart-inverter systems, and Illinois law lets you keep solar from raising your property assessment. Your savings depend on your usage, roof, and utility — a free proposal shows your real numbers.
Will solar increase my property taxes?
Illinois allows an alternate valuation for solar (35 ILCS 200/10-10). File form PTAX-330 with your county assessor so your home is valued as if it had a conventional energy system.
Do I have to buy the panels?
No. In Illinois, Cox offers two ways to pay. You can own the system (cash or a solar loan) and receive the incentives, or choose a Cox power plan: on a qualifying agreement you provide the roof and pay for the power the system produces. Credit and roof approval required. A power plan is not free solar — you still pay for power, at the rate written in your agreement.
Can I still get the 30% federal solar tax credit?
Not for a home system installed in 2026. The residential clean energy credit (Section 25D) ended for systems completed after December 31, 2025. Businesses may still qualify for the commercial Section 48E credit under new deadlines. Consult a tax professional about your situation.
How does net metering work with ComEd and Ameren now?
Customers interconnecting on or after January 1, 2025 receive supply-only net metering: excess solar sent to the grid earns credits against the supply portion of the bill, and those credits roll forward. Customers interconnected by December 31, 2024 keep full retail net metering for the life of their system.
How long does the process take?
Most projects take 6 to 12 weeks from signed agreement to permission to operate. The physical installation is usually one to three days; the rest is engineering, permits, incentive approvals, and utility interconnection.
Can I go solar with no money down?
Financing options such as solar loans can allow $0 down. Income-eligible households may qualify for Illinois Solar for All, which provides solar with no upfront cost. See our financing page for details.
